Portraits in G Minor

Reveling in the mystic wonders that can emerge even from “the palm of a corporate boss,” the poems of Paco Márquez “splash the sky wide,” exposing the magic in the quotidian — the “unnoticed silhouettes / imprinted in the grass.” In the tender violence of these portraits, “that which spoke the rose into being” also hums through daily life, holding a man’s hand, looking him in the eye, and saying, “the kitchen window is open.”

New Poetry Month Titles

In honor of National Poetry Month, we launched two new titles today: 1) Catherine Sophia’s Elbow, a novel-in-verse by Darla K. Crist, 2) Hints, a chapbook of micro-poems by Rose Auslander.

Chapfest 2014

Last week, Rose and I had the privilege of representing Folded Word at CUNY’s 6th Annual Chapbook Festival. The format of the festival changed from last year, so there were events all over Manhattan for three days, with the book fair portion compressed into one day during the work week. Judging from the increase in foot traffic, I’d say the change paid off.
