I wonder what you see…

#WonderFold is a monthly feature that includes a prompt-based writing challenge one month, followed by the publication of a winning response the next month.

INVITATION: All art grows out of paying attention: in sight, sound, scent, taste & touch. You are invited to craft a written response (poetry or prose, 50 words or less) to the image and scene below:

cappuccinoSCENE: In the cafe, constant murmurs of fellowship are frequently overcome by the loud pssst of the espresso machine. A man with a continual cough sits in the corner. At one point, a woman embraces a friend with so much exuberance that all but one child, glued to an iPad, turn to watch the greeting – some smile, some look annoyed. The scent of freshly roasted coffee mixes with the chill air of winter that enters each time the front door is opened. Alone, every seat is taken but one. The barista calls out, “cappuccino.”

RESPONSE:  Combining the sensory information in the scene/photos above with your own experience/imagination, write a short poem or paragraph in response. JS Graustein (Editor in Chief) will select one response to be highlighted on the blog and its author will receive a free chapbook (choice from stock on-hand). Enter your poem/paragraph in the form below no later than 21:00 Eastern on 9 January 2017. The winning response will be announced/posted 16 January 2017, and its author sent a list of chapbooks to choose from.
